What does a painting by Lucy Perry say?
So often as artists we are met with the task of describing our unique voice - what is it we want to say? My voice is simply sharing the joy I find in the aesthetics of the world around me - I want the viewer to notice the colours, shapes and textures that I see. I want them to enjoy the light, the patterns, the hues and the forms that I enjoy. Everywhere I go I see a painting - I wonder 'how could I paint that tree in three brushstrokes?' 'What colours would I mix to make that green?' 'What would it look like if I place those flowers on that piece of cloth?' It's a visual voyage of discovery everyday and is central to who I am, to how I exist.
Another consideration an artist has to acknowledge is - have they found their stye? This question I deliberate and cogitate often but no matter how much thought I give it I always end up in the same place - I have more that one style. I can't be pigeon-holed, I can't be restricted, I can't limit myself to one way of working - it's not in my nature, it's not who I am. My style is to create, to explore and to discover - wherever that may take me. As an art teacher I nurture this in others every day and I value it in myself, immensely. The creative process is what drives me forward every time I enter the studio - and I love it!
