Cyanotype

It all begins with cyanotypes. One of the earliest forms of photography, cyanotypes are magical images produced from a mix of iron compounds and the power of the sun. At Flora Blue we love to engage with nature by using flowers and plant forms to create shadows on hand-coated paper…the power of the sun then exposes the coating not in shadow and turns it this distinctive Prussian blue. It is an unpredictable process with plenty of images that don’t make the grade but the excitement of the ‘happy accidents’ where beauty just seems to magically appear before your eyes is an enthralling bit of alchemy that we are delighted to share with you in our carefully hand crafted artworks and accessories.
