Blog Post WE WALK IN FIELDS OF GOLD
I am excited to be exhibiting at the Royal Norfolk Show again this year and I have produced a new version of my ‘Fields of Gold' series especially - evoking waves of barley swaying gently in the summer breeze. ‘We Walk in Fields of Gold' was produced using real barley to create the imagery for both the cyanotype print and the photo sensitive silk screen emulsion stencil. The stencil is used to apply the size for the gold leaf - it’s a lengthy process but the results are worth it! The show is on 26th and 27th June 2024 at the Norfolk Showground.
I grew up on an arable farm on the Essex/Suffolk border - in some ways an idyllic childhood where we were left to play and explore the farm around us learning about nature and the countryside firsthand and uncensored, simply part of our daily life. When I think about how my work is inspired by the seasons and by the things I see around me in nature I realise the intuitiveness of this, it isn’t contrived or forced, it’s simply who I am and how I have been nurtured - everyday was about the weasther and what was growing, what was living and what changes where happening. Alongside the bucolic though, we were also immersed in machines with pretty much free reign when it came to cars, motorbikes and making things in workshops …must be why I am always making something, always solving some practical problem or other!
UPDATE - This piece sold at the Royal Norfolk Show - if you are interested in a Field of Gold Artwork or in commissioning a very special cyanotype created from plants, crops, leaves, flowers, etc from your garden, property or land please do get in touch.
